Blog Stage 8

Today I'm commenting on Donna's blog post about if gay marriage should be legal. After reading her post I back her up 100% and also feel that gay marriage should be legal. The reason I back her up is because believe it or not I have a friend that is lesbian and she's no different than me and you. I strongly feel that Homosexuals are just the same as everyone else and should be allowed the same privileges as straight people.
Donna goes on to say in her post that because gay people can't get married, there deprived of the simple things that married couples are allowed to provide each other or obtain. The first examples she touches on is insurance. She states that because the couples can't get married, it affects them if they wanna share health insurance with one another. She also states that gay couples are less likely to be allowed to adopt children, which in my eyes is horrible because they can help someone find a home. In my opinion who cares if the people that raise the kid is homosexual. It shouldn't matter on sexual preference because if the kid is being raised to be a good person it shouldn't matter.
After reading her post I feel that we stand the same on the issue. I feel she uses great examples from her article to get her points across, that gays should be allowed to be married. I again will state that we are created all equally and should be allowed the same opportunities as other. I think the govt. should allow gay marriage and someday they will. I have nothing against it and after reading Dona's post neither does she.

Blog #6

Today I'am commenting on Dana's blog post about having more women debate about the abortion issue than old conservative men. After I read her post I could not help, but to agree with 100%. She first opens up about old conservative men trying to debate the issue and doesn't agree with that. I back her up on this because how can a man debate on women's issues, when a man doesn't have ovaries himself. Its kind of hard for a man to make the decision of outlawing abortion when men are not woman and its difficult to relate to women problems.
Dana does say that she doesn't agree that abortion should be the first choice for a unwanted pregnancy, but feels that if a woman is raped, she should have options available to her. She also uses speeches that Republicans have made about the issue and argues that the men say ignorant things and feels that these men shouldn't have the power to even, maybe take that right away from women. Dana also feels that women should debate this issue because it is a feminine issue and not men.
After reading what Dana said, I can't do nothing but agree with her. I do feel men shouldn't handle this controversial issue because it is a woman subject more than a mans. I feel that its 2013 and woman have just as much as a voice as men do. When it comes to my opinion on Dana's post, I feel she did a great job and basically feel the same as her on this issue.

Should be trim down on food stamps or other benefits?

On Friday, November 1, 2013 the NewYork Times published a article tittled As Cuts to Food Stamps Take Effect, More Trims To Benefits Are Expected. Today marks the day that the National Govt. starts to make cuts on Food Stamps for Americans that are receiving this assistance. This argument can swing both ways, but my opinion I feel that the govt. has made a good decision. In the article the author remains neutral giving off statistics, that the govt. will shave off $5billion in the year 2014. Its clear that by including these statics, food consumption will drop because of these cuts.
In my opinion I feel the govt. should make these cuts because a lot of people abuse the system. I think that most people get on these benefits, because they don't want to work and usually want everything handed to them. Yes the consumption will go down, but people need to wake up and not expect the govt. to help them with everything.
The other argument can be made that there are people that do need it, but I strongly agree that the govt. should crack down to weed out the the people that are taking advantage of this system. I know its harsh, but it shouldn't be the governments job to support your family for years on end, this benefit should be used for people to get their feet back under them. I would recommend this article because its non bias and people need to know that food stamps will be cut. I feel the argument can go both ways, but I don't think we should put in as much money into a system that is being taken advantage of.

Substantial Commentary or Criticism #2

On Friday, October 18, 2013 the Los Angeles Times published article titled Americans want to dump Congress Members. After the government finally re-opend, it seems Americans are still not happy with their Congress members. The article mainly talks about how people are not to thrilled and really do not trust the Congress members. In a survey that the author uses, he says that 4 out of 10 voters do not want their representatives re-elected and 19% of people say they trust the government to do the right thing. With the American people so upset its clear to readers that the author does a great job at showing this, by using statistics to really get the point across. He also goes as far as to open up the article by saying that the American public likes Homeland Security more, Federal Bureaucrats more, and the IRS even far far more.
After reading this article I would recommend this to my peers because in my opinion I feel like the author does a great job giving examples and also using statistics to his advantage. My perspective is I do think the American public is upset and I agree on what was said, because we rely on these representatives to get stuff done. I hope now we can move forward as a nation now that people are back at work and I hope Congress gets it together.

Blog Stage Three: Substantial commentary or criticism #1

With the government shutting down recently, its raised question to the public who's fault was it? On Friday, October 4, 2013, the NewYork Times published a article titled With No New Plan, Boehner Makes Angry Plea On Shutdown.  The author uses Boehner's argument to support the idea, that the president is not cooperating and is not willing to negotiate. He also writes that Republicans do want to compromise, because just like the people they want the government to reopen. When reading the article it is noticeable to the reader that the author uses a lot of quotes from other Republican leader, to back up his writing for the parties argument.
In my opinion i feel like the article is a pro Republican type of article. The authors Jonathan Weisman and Ashley Parker don't really use any Democratic quotes, which makes me believe that there only telling one side of the story. As a reader I want to hear both sides, because of its just one side it basically looks like its the Democrats fault why the government shut down. Personally I feel like the author did a good job of writing the story, but fails just short and as a result the argument doesn't look fair.
As a reader I wouldn't recommend this article because I feel it is a little to one sided and I would want my peers to get the full picture, not half of it. My opinion of the over all issue is I think both sides are to blame and I hope that both parties come to a compromise.

Enabling a link in Blogger.

With the new iPhone 5S coming out this year, raises security questions whether using your fingerprint will run the risk of identify theft.  On Friday, September 20, 2013, the BBC News published an article titled Apple Fingerprint Tech Raises's Privacy Questions. In the article, Senator Al Franken, chairmen of the Influential Senate Judiciary Subcommittee and the Law, writes to Apple's boss Tim Cook about concerns on the new thumbprint feature on the iPhone. The Senator wants his questions answered about whether fingerprint data will be kept secret, the exact legal status of such fingerprint data, whether the fingerprint could ever be stolen by hackers or fraudsters, and whether the iPhone transmits diagnostic about the Touch ID system back to Apple or any third parties.

I do recommend for people to take a look at this article because people should question this fingerprint technology. In my opinion,  I feel as if this could put people at risk to be a target for identify theft and I, myself, wouldn't feel safe giving a phone company access to my fingerprint.
